Not a great day...

Something weird happened today. To explain I need to go back a few of months.

Back then we had five pets – Dee Dee and Dexter (Birds), Rex and Piggie Smalls (Rabbit and a Guinea Pig), and Pesto (nutzoid green Parrot). All live in the house and have a room all to themselves just off of the living room that opens out into the garden. The birds fly around the house (when there are no windows open) and Rex and The Notorious P.I.G. had a free run of a large garden. Basically – they had a very good life.

Then one of the birds (Dee Dee) got ill and eventually passed away. She was always the weakest of the bunch being an albino – but it was still a shock. Then - not 12 hours later the perfectly healthy Piggie Smalls feel extremely ill and also passed away. The vet felt he had contracted a flu type virus and was too weak to fight it.

So, regular readers will know about how ill my rabbit is. He’s not been well for a while and I’ve spent the last two months administering injections and all kinds of things. Regular readers will also know that I’ve pretty much done all that I can to save him, but the decision to stop his suffering has now been made. Tomorrow is his last day with us.

So what happens today? I found Dexter (the remaining bird and Dee Dee’s partner) at the bottom of his cage, gasping to take his few last breaths. He died about 10 minutes later.

So in the space of a little over two month we’ve lost four animals – each dieing in pairs and within 24 hours of each other. It’s insane. It’s like they hit a ‘shelf life’ or something.

I’m not very happy today.

Nic.
