"Guru Meditation"...

How embarrassing. I got emailed an Amiga emulator (old home computer) to have a mess around with. Now late 80s, early 90s I used to do a lot of music on this beast. Impossible to think now – 8bit samples at 22k if you were lucky, 4 sound channels, 512K RAM (which was shared with the system). I mean 512K RAM. That’s nothing. I probably have single Hi-Hat samples that are bigger than that.

Still – it was my first ‘real’ sampler and I loved it.

So I’m messing around with this emulator and searching for disks when I find some of my old (old old old) demos. These are pre-me getting halfway competent with the music software. So embarrassing.

I can’t believe these disks are out in circulation when some of my later and better efforts aren’t.

To try and redress the balance I’m going to have a look at re-mastering (as best I can) a mini-album I did on the Amiga back in 1991. It’s all early industrial stuff. What can I say – I was ahead of my time. The sound quality will still be nasty but it was all done on an Amiga and a 4-track.

My Amiga is still with me (up in the loft somewhere) and if it weren’t such a pain to get the disks across I’d probably spend some time archiving all my stuff from that era.

Ah memories.

Nic.
